This project showcases digital photo editing and restoration work focused on preserving visual history. I repair damage such as fading, scratches, tears, and discoloration while maintaining the original character of each image. These restorations are suited for genealogy projects, personal archives, and print reproduction, balancing technical correction with respect for the source material.
With so much exposure in the original photo, it was difficult to apply the right amount of contrast and color balance. Though some details, such as the man's black neckerchief, were somewhat lost with my restoration, I prioritized more crucial details in favor of preserving the photo's personality, namely by increasing clarity to their facial features. I also cropped the photo more logically.
Besides color correction, with this photo I removed large scratches and increased visual contrast. Special thanks to my grandparents for allowing me to scan, collect, and modify these photos.
